There are tons of editors out there with this feature. It's nice, but nothing special. But since you brought it up, I have a question for you. What makes emacs the greatest editor/IDE. I will admit, I am unfamiliar with emacs capabilities. I always thought of it as a text editor on steroids. From what I hear from others, I can see how it could be considered a top-notch editor, perhaps even the "worlds greatest". But IDE? Unless I am completely mistaken about emacs' capabilities, I can't see how it could compare to other "full-blown" IDEs, such as Eclipse, IDEA, JBuilder, etc. Can emacs do the following... 1) Rename a method, and change all references to that method anywhere else in my code (but not different methods with same name) 2) Show me all references in my code to a specific method/class/attribute. 3) Allow me to select a code block and generate a method that encapsulates that code block. 4) Create a skeleton class from an interface(s) I provide. 5) Create a skeleton of a unit test from a class I provide. These are just simple Java IDE features. This does not include any debugging or J2EE development features. If emacs can not do every one of these, I got news for you - emacs is a LONG way from being the world greatest IDE. If I am wrong in my assumptions about emacs [it's been known to happen :-)], please set me straight. But if emacs is lacking in some of these powerful IDE features, I would encourage all emacs evangilists who refusse to write code in anything BUT emacs to try a "real" IDE. You just may be surprised how some of these features I listed above can really boost your productivity. Ryan
