JDK 1.3 ORB and visibroker 4.5.1 (Can they work together??)

Hi:

I'm trying to use the ORB in JDK 1.3.1 in my front end to talk to my
backend services which use visibroker 4.5.1. I got no success. I
checked the sun website and they said their ORB is CORBA 2.3 compliant
in some areas but of course it means not all CORBA 2.3 compliant in
another way. Visibroker 4.5.1 is CORBA 2.3 compliant. I think
visibroker is backward compactible to older CORBA spec. So I'm not
sure if the reason for not working was I did not do things right or
the two different ORBs really can't work together.

If you had success in making the two work, I appreciate if you can let
me know and the best if you could share some sample code with me.

Thanks in advance.

I used to use visibroker 4.0, and found it couldn't work with jdk 1.3. After
I changed to jdk 1.1, everything was ok.
Then I read the documents about visibroker, they just announced the version
only tested on some specific jdk veriosn.

Try an older version of jdk. And good luck.

Thanks for your writing. But my question is about the issues I'm
having with the use of two ORBs from different vendors and they don't
communicate very well. I'm not trying to find out what version of jdk
visibroker 4.5.1 is supporting when you run your services written in
java on it. Summing up, it's the following:

   JDK 1.3 ORB <--------- X --------------> Visibroker 4.5.1 ORB
   (client side)                            (server side)

the two ORBs don't talk very well.

I would like to know if there is a solution. Or I definitely have to
use visibroker 4.5.1 on both ends.

I hope this can clarify more.

Thanks.

Hi Morris,

what do you mean by "they don' communicate very well"?
Are you using some proprietary VisiBroker functionality by any chance (e.g.
_bind())?
