Hi,

Im working on an Interface to control Word for Windows by java
applications, see http://www.must.de/Javactpe.htm

Since Java should have been grown up for building business applications,
word processing has become important. The driver for WinWord is actually
downloaded 10 times a day; Stardivison (= Sun) is working on an
extensive solution as well.

Nevertheless it is good to get started right now. Now my question: Who
is interested in building a similar driver for other word processing
systems / operating systems? Lets build a Java word processing expert
network!

Christoph

Example:
     WordProcessing.createNewDocumentFromTemplate("SampleTemplate");
     WordProcessing.typeTextAtBookmark("AddressLine1", "O'Reilly &
Associated, Inc.");
     WordProcessing.typeTextAtBookmark("AddressLine2", "Mr Miller");
     WordProcessing.typeTextAtBookmark("AddressLine3", "101 Moris
Street");
     WordProcessing.typeTextAtBookmark("AddressLine4", "Sebastopol, CA
95472-9902");
     WordProcessing.typeTextAtBookmark("Salutation", "Dear Mr Miller,");

     WordProcessing.exec();

Linar.com is already selling a product JIntegra which can link Java with
any kind
of COM Object (also DCOM) including Excel and Word. The product costs
the
amount of 2 consultant days. I hope you will not reinvent the wheel or
perhaps
your product has some other special benefit (like being public
domain???? or shareware????)

Cheerios, Sylvia

Sylvia,

thank you for your hint! Any initiative is welcome that keep Java
programmers free from brooding about how COM works.

Anyway there is a difference. WordAPI..exe is Freeware.

More aspects:

I'm doubting if the Linar stuff is the same thing. First: It is more mighty
and less easy to get started.

Second:
Should a Java programmer think in categories as "I'm using ActiveX"? I think
he shouldn't even think like "I'm using Word for Windows".

My Java class is named "WordProcessing", not "WordForWindows" nor
"SystemAPI". The Java developer may use it without caring what word
processing system may be used now or later.

Coming from AS/400 development I'm pretty new to public domain culture and I
don't want to compare with the authors of Linux - but why not trying to
cooperate building more drivers to access many word processing systems on
different platforms as a freeware?
