The farming argument hurts the meat eaters more than the vegetarians. As many a dietitian has pointed out, it takes anywhere from 7 to 10 lbs of grain just to create 1 lb. of meat. Since one can often get the protein and nutrients in 1 lb. of meat from much less than the 7 to 10 lbs. of grain, and since the meat eaters are demanding to consume vegetation in addition to the grain used to make their meat, then by eating meat one uses up 2 to 3 times as much farmland as does someone who eats only vegetation. In addition, the meat eaters are folling themselves when they eat meat that claims to be "75% lean" and scoff at vegetarians who may consume meat-substitutes that are sometimes twice the cost of 75% lean meat, claiming that the vegetarian food is more expensive for the same nutrition. They claim that they are eating something which is only 25% fat. What they forget is that the 75% lean rating is fat *by weight*. Say you have a 75% lean meat patty, such as you obtain at a fast food restaurant (no kidding). Say it weighs 4 ounces uncooked and 3 ounces cooked. At this point it has 260 calories and 19 grams of fat. Since a gram of fat has 9 calories, we multiply 19 times 9 and get 171 calories, or 66% of the calories in a cooked meat patty. In other words, you get 66% of your calories in a meat patty from fat, which is a far cry from 25% fat and brings the vegetarian food into perspective as "less fatty". In addition, 2% milk actually gets 38% of its calories from fat, even though only 2% of the milk is fat. Something to think about when attempting to laugh at vegetarians who despise milk for a rice-based alternative that only has 10% or less of its calories from fat.
