Apologies if this is a FAQ, but I am looking for a PD implementation of Objective-C, and accompanying documentation (i.e. language description with tutorials). I would suggest looking at GNU and it's gcc version 2.2.x. There's an Objective-C compiler in it, and GNU is (kind of) PD. With the tutorials, it is quite different... Uli

yes, and it is totally useless until someone writes the runtime
message dispatching routines. basically, it doesn't have an Object
class.
what's "kind of PD" supposed to mean? PD, assuming that the original
poster was referring to public domain, is a legal term. either
something is or is not public domain. you can't be "kind of" public
domain. GNU stuff is freely distributable. you just can't claim you
wrote it.

GNU stuff is freely distributable. you just can't claim you >wrote it. I think it means exactly what he said. GNU is NOT Public Domain. For most people though, it's as close as it need be. It is NOT freely distributable, there are conditions and limitations on how you may distribute it. From the USER'S perspective GNU is public domain. But from the developer's perspective (those who modify GNU code), it most certainley is not. This is not meant as a GNU flame. >yes, and it is totally useless until someone writes the runtime >message dispatching routines. basically, it doesn't have an Object >class. > Can someone answer these questions: Is GNU working on the runtime support for Objective-C? Is someone doing it and planning on donating it to GNU? Is GNU Objective-C still born? or will it one day get some life? I would really really REALLY like to see the GNU compiler get an Objective-C runtime. Should I write it myself????? Or can I help GNU finish it? Or can I help someone else write it? Is someone else writing it? I don't want to start writing it now, only to find that in 2-3 months, someone allready has it done. I hate having to post so many questions, but I'm so far in the dark, that I can't post any statements. If anyone can tell me the truth, or provide a pointer to the truth, it would truly be appreciated.
