Try LIKE '_pple' ore use Object PAL to convert everything to upper
case

Record number should not have a meaning in a database, so I don't
recommend this. What happens if there is more than one user. One is
deleting and the other is selecting and third user is adding records.
Try to keep the record number.

Same problem. 
Solution 1: borrow or buy some books. 
Solution 2: Use Database Desktop to generate the code. It is easy to
make query using Desktop. After completion see SQL statement by
pressing that nice SQL button;-). Works quite often. 
Solution 3: Download: Delphi VCL Extensions (RX) Library from Delphi
Superpage It contains a large number of components,
objects and routines for Borland Delphi with full source code. One of
the components accepts Paradox type QBE. It works on Paradox and Dbase
tables. Only trouble is that the help files are in Russian.
