As a java developer i'm suprised of the numerous ways to get a DB Connection in the Delphi world. What I want is a Windows client written in Delphi that is able to connect to a ASE 11.x Sybase database. And that should be done in the fastest way possible. First of all Delphi Ent. claims to allow a native connection to Sybse Databases (ASE). So what is "native"? Does is mean ODBC, DBE, SQL Links or Open Client? For me Open Client is the only real native Library, but I can't find any support for it in the Delphi Enterprise IDE. What is exactly the relationship of ODBC, SQL Links and BDE. Thank you for helping me with these questions! Regards, Mounir

Delphi claims 'native' support for Sybase, because SQL Links (the SQL server drivers for the BDE) contains a Sybase driver that uses Open Client. If you want to bypass the BDE and use the Open Client directly you could use CTLib for Delphi (http://www.geocities.com/ctlibcomps/index.htm) or the more general SQLDirect (http://www.sqldirect-soft.com/).
