Hello, I need some help with this (beginner-(?)) problem: I would like to run my programm on other PCs. The problem I have is that I don't know what I have to include in order to run the programm on a PC on which delphi isn't intalled. I guess I have to take some .dlls along, right?? How do I know which .dlls or other software I have to take along in order not to get some message like 'There's no borland engine installed..."? Thanx for the help! You need to first check that your license allows you to
distribute programs. The 'learners edition' eg does not.
The InstallShield Lite that comes with D has done
a pretty good job for me (no user complaints), but then
again, I'm not distributing the BDE.

Hi Carsten, it is one of the biggest advantages of Delphi that you need nothing else to distribute as your program (and its data files). If you want to distribute an application which uses a database then this isn't entirely true. In this case you'd also need the BDE. As mentioned, InstallShield does a good job keeping you away from such trouble. Actually you don't need anything, only the executable file itself and whatever external files it might use (if any). Just make sure it is the same environment (like WIN 32 for example) Thats why Delphi is better than VB. well thats it On Tue, 28 Oct 1997 18:48:44 +0100, Carsten Pluns <carsten@teleco.upv.es> wrote: >Hello, > >I need some help with this (beginner-(?)) problem: >I would like to run my programm on other PCs. Once the program is compiled into an .EXE you don't need anything from Delphi for it to run on any computer that runs Windows (Delphi 1 on Win 3.11 and above, and Delphi 2,3 on Windows95 or NT) If your program uses Tables, Paradox, DBase etc, you will need to install the Database Engine which is supplied on 2 disks which are found on the Delphi CD in the REDIST directory. If your program (Delphi 1 or 2) uses ReportSmith, you need to install the ReportSmith Run Time (5 disks also found in the REDIST directory) Regards, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Laurie Bisman lbisman@ihug.co.nz (ICQ 1458799) Web page http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~lbisman/index.html Company http://www.addlink.ac.nz/Home.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
