Printing long lines using mp command

I am trying to use the mp command on the SUN to print lines longer than 80 characters
in landscape mode without having the line wrap at 80 characters. I have modified the landscape postscript prolog (mp.pro.l.ps) to print one column, instead of two, but have been unable to override the 80 character limitation on the line length.
Does anyone know if it is possible to override the line length, or is it built into the
mp command to break a long text string at 80 characters?
