PostScript to EPSF conversion

Looking for tool, experiences and/or information on converting
PostScript files to EPS files.

Some responses have been "throw in a showpage and a header and
then you have EPS". However, the Language Reference has a lot
of other requirements/guidelines, including a list of 15 or 20
operators that are "must not be used". So, I need a tool, or
more information on how, or under what conditions this can be
done.

Thanks, Danny
