In the past, I've used a package called 'a2ps' which converts ascii to 
postscript.  It can be ftp'd from rigel.acs.oakland.edu and can be found in
pub/unix-c/postscript/a2ps.tar-z.

The program has a couple of options to change paper size (which you will need
to compile in).  Look in the Makefile for '-DHEIGHT' and '-DWIDTH'.  Values 
that I have used are 14.0 and 8.5 resp. for legal size printing.  You can change
the margin size with '-DMARGIN'.

Also to access our HP laserjet IIIsi's lower tray which holds the legal size
paper, I had to include the following code toward the bottom of a2ps.c and 
define the variable LEGAL in the above Makefile line with '-DLEGAL'.

I'm sure there must be simpler solutions than this, but we use this 
combination extensively especially for landscape mode printing on legal paper.
