I'm having trouble printing a postscript file (created on a Mac) on a unix
printer. Our version of Ultrascript complains about the setmatrix command.
Macps was described in the FAQ, so I ftp'd it. However, the instructions in
the distribution for creating the LaserPrep file don't match my experience on
my Mac. The primary problem is that I can't find a LaserPrep file. I've seen
other postings referring to "the LaserPrep wars" but I haven't found concrete
info on the subject.
The man page for macps says:
The input PostScript file is generated on a Macintosh by
typing (and holding) Command-F immediately after clicking
the OK button of the LaserWriter printer dialog box.
Another dialog will appear, confirming that a file named
``PostScript'' is being created (the Command-F keys can be
released now).
When using system 7 and Word 5.0, (1) the print dialogue box has a button for
printing to postscript files and (2) Command-K doesn't have any effect (no
"LaserPrep" or "PostScript" file is created anywhere on the disk). Command-K
has no effect even when printing the document to a printer. I've also tried
this in Claris MacDraw with the same results (where Command-K is bound to a
MacDraw function). I suspect that this version of macps was created before
the 'output to postscript file' option appeared on Macs. What do we do now?
Can anyone suggest another source of information or another way to create a
LaserPrep file? Or perhaps a different way to get recalcitrant Mac postscript
files to print on a unix postscript printer?
Thanks, Mike
