My experience has been only with MSWord, which using the print dialog box, can be asked to output PS format. Unfortunately, I have also noticed that when I ask MSWord to produce PS files, it bitmaps *the entire document*. IMO, that bites the big one. Has anyone else experienced this? Does MacWrite give not bitmapped PS output? Any help appreciated. As a side note, I have noticed that MSWord 5.0's Equation editor *always* produces PS information. Kind of handy for those technical presentations I do in PS. Thanks for any info, gReg

The LaserWriter driver prefers TrueType fonts to Type 1, and whenever it can it prefixes your PS file with the encoded TrueType fonts plus the PostScript code for a TrueType interpreter. This is the "bitmaps" you thought you saw. Somewhere hidden among all this binary lies the reasonable PS version of your MW document. My approach was to delete the TrueType fonts, data security erase the sectors they had occupied, and move the TT distribution floppy to a locked cabinet in a room separate from my Mac. So far, the LW driver has not succeeded in finding them. :-) Another approach is to install the Trimmer CDEV, which filters this garbage out of PS files generated by Mac applications. Available from your local archive site.
