I purchased a QMS model PS-810 printer a while back and the guy I bought it from
was supposed to include the manual but he didn't - such is the peril of buying
equipment over the net ;-(
Anyhow, I have a couple of questions for anybody who may know:
1. The printer has a HPLJ emulation mode that can be selected via a switch on
the back of the machine. This is a rather inconvenient way to switch modes
though, it would be much preferred if there was an escape sequence or something I
could send the printer in "batch" mode to pop it into HPLJ emulation and then
another sequence to put it back to postscript - any ideas? Also, which HPLJ does
this thing emulate anyhow, a II or an II+ or an III or ????
2. Apparently this printer came with a couple of utility diskettes when it was
new, and QMS wants something like $150 for those diskettes and the manuals for
the software on them - does anybody know what these utils do? Are they worth
having, or more specifically are they worth spending that much $$ on?
ADVthanksANCE

Only later models of QMS printers have auto detection. You have to use the
switch on this model. The manual for the one I have at work is at work.
As for the emulation, I'll have to look it up. (brown@vidiot.com)

They are only for setting various modes on the printer, like speed, handshaking,
etc. That can be done without the programs on the diskettes, which are for the
PC anyway and don't work under Unix.
More info can be obtained at the above address. Keep in mind that I am on
vacation and won't get back to you right away, until after the new year.
