Is there a program for the conversion of postscript and/or encapsulated
postscript files to a form that can be used by Microsoft Word, perhaps as
a Rich Text Format file?

Ya know... I've been looking for something that could do this. And in the
interim, I've learned a bit about Postscript. I found a program that was
supposed to return unformated text, but it didn't seem to work for me.
So.... I think the answer is, no.

The reason for Postscript is that you can describe a page, but it remains
ASCII text. And the file can contain graphics as well. That makes it
easy to mail someone a file that is both program
independant, and platform independant. But then you need to have a Postscript
printer to output the file. I've seen a program called Emulaser that was
a Postscript emulator... but it was VERY slow. It took 3-4 minutes a page
on a 386-33. It allowed viewing of the files before printing, but that took
almost as long.... page by page. :(

Oh well... I hope someone has a better answer.

Somebody mailed me a private response stating that this cannot be done
because too much of the formatting info is lost in the process of
converting to postscript.

I guess the best that could be done is to do a postscript to character
(note that I intentionally did not misuse the term ASCII here) and then
manually recreate the Word .doc file. I guess it's better than losing file.

This means that my question now becomes: "Which is the best postscript to
character translation program?"
