When OE5 came to PC I started to get HTML formatted mails that my Eudora Pro 4.2.2 can't translate, thus showing the original code. I found out why: PC OE5 is using 8 bit characters and control characters. I found a fix for it, here is what to do: 1. Drag a mail froma a mailbox to the desktop as this will produce a Eudora mailbox and a COPY of the mail you were dragging. 2. Open the mailbox and delete the mail. 3. Drag a mail to be cleaned from any mailbox to the open desktop mailbox, this will result in the mail to be MOVED not COPIED. 4.Close the desktop mailbox and open it with BBEdit Lite 4.6 and choose the menu Text->Zap "Gremlins"..., check the boxes Filter Line Feeds, Zap 8-bit Characters and Zap Control Characters. Click on the radio button Delete and click on Zap. Save and close. 5.Reopen the desktop mailbox by clicking on it, you will now get a warning message from Eudora: Mailbox [name of the mailbox] has been changed since its table of content was created. You should let Eudora rebuild the table of content or cancel, unless etc.etc. and you get the choice between Cancel, Use Old and Rebuild. Choose Rebuild. 6.When you open the mailbox the send status is set to Recovered, you can just change it back to Read. Drag the mail back in the mailbox where it belongs and you're done. Eudora now reads the HTML. Problems? If there are attachments the mailbox will not show it in the attachment status, however they are still there and available if you open the mail.
