With MMDF one would make one channel per host and, when the queue for that host needs to be run, execute deliver -chosts-channel-name However he is wanting to set up quite a lot of these. Unfortunately the channel tables in MMDF are allocated statically at compile time. So either he talks SCO into building him binaries with larger channel tables, or he grabs the public sources off louie.udel.edu and recompiles himself. The flag on sendmail is apparently something added in one of the commonly available patched sendmails (IDA?). It is done by /usr/lib/sendmail -Rhost.name With either one on a dial up SLIP the server system hasn't a way to know when the client system is attached. Unless the client system is allowed to do something to the server system to notify that it's there. One way is with rsh but that opens a security hole. Another is with something like the daemon I've written called `kickd'. Kickd is started from inetd and thus can listen to any particular port you desire. When started it does getpeername() to find out the partner then looks in a configuration file for actions to perform for that partner. Very simple. So to solve the above the config file looks like davids.mmdf.com: /usr/lib/sendmail -Rdavids.mmdf.com Or for an MMDF site client1.dircon.co.uk: /usr/mmdf/bin/deliver -cch-client1 I have been meaning to release this but it needs some cleanup, etc. David Newsgroups: comp.mail.misc,comp.mail.sendmail,biz.sco.general From: leo@elmail.co.uk (E.J.Leoni-Smith) Subject: Re: Processing a queue to a particular SMTP host Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1993 22:22:33 GMT Message-ID: <CGnq5M.I3C@elmail.co.uk> References: <pmiles.753551204@tdc> In article <pmiles.753551204@tdc> pmiles@dircon.co.uk (Peter Miles) writes: > >Is there any way (in sendmail, MMDF or any other MTA) to force the >outgoing SMTP mail queue to be processed for a particular host? SUNOS 4.1.3 sendmail has a flag to allow mail to be flushed according to a particular string in the to: filed. Demon use this I beleive to flush SMTP mail when their dial up IP customers come on line. I don't think it is standard sendmail tho. You might do worse than grab the latset sendmail sources. Doubtless comp.mail.sendmail is the right plcae to post this... Leo
