    This file can get out of sync with the real sendmail daemon.  I wrote
a stupid little shell script to check that file (if it exists) and try to
do things the right way, but to also detect which sendmail process was the
parent daemon and do the right thing there in case they got out of sync.

    It's nowhere near perfect, and I don't know if I'll ever feel inclined
to inflict it upon the sendmail community at large, but it shouldn't be
that hard to write your own program that does something similar and is
probably better than mine.


    Fortunately, if you started sendmail 8.7.y up correctly (with a full
path, as opposed to "cd directory ./sendmail -bd" or somesuch), then a
kill -HUP should do the right thing.
