I think lame supports standardinput..

I really love l3enc. The first dos versions was for XTs..when everybody
had a Mac and mp2. Still usable with 8000 bits/sec.

Same thing with mp4player and audio. Dont know how far they are in
incorporating ogg into mp4. mp3s in mp4s are ok with mpeg4ip, not with
apple etc, and I think there is something for ogg too, a special version
of mp4player or whatever.
