hey folks, In October I bought a copy of the Apple Media Tool in order to produce a series of short multimedia presentations/marketing pamphlets. Well, because of Apple's liscensing scheme, we're unable to use it (it would cost us about 25K/year!!). So I'm selling it -- og box, documentation, discs, etc. for $350.00 (new: 500.00). I really love this little program -- it produces run-time versions of your productions in both mac and dos platforms; and since it uses a map/icon metaphor, it is very easy to use. I highly reccomend it for both novice users wanting to get into multimedia production and for experienced users for their shorter, less elaborate projects. However, you should be aware that Apple, in all their unwitting stupidity, wants 500 bucks every time you liscense the software for commercial use. If you're a student or faculty or some other non-profit sort, you can use it for free. If anyone is interested, drop me some mail. andy

You can now distribute titles built with AMT completely free. You don't even need to put a "Made with Apple Media Tool" logo on, as you do with Director. Contact Apple for confirmation if you wish. By the way, AMT 2.0 has just been launched: its a great deal easier to use, and much more powerful (e.g. QTVR without any coding...) A small disclaimer: I wrote the user's guide for the AMT Programming Environment (in v2.0) Dan

Dan's right, we make AMT titles and don't have to pay licensing fees (and we even don't have to pay licensing fees for QT either! Another good idea from Apple!). > A small disclaimer: I wrote the user's guide for the AMT Programming > Environment (in v2.0) Well I didn't, and Dan is still right! > Dan Chas DFI

Before posting my 4-sale notice, I spoke with Apple for about 90 minutes, trying to figure out how we might reduce the cost of title-licensing. We couldn't, hence my kind of inflamatory posting (i'm usually not like that!). Thanks, guys, for the info. Andy

I guess Apple's right hand is having a hard time telling what the left hand is doing. AMT licensing fees have been history for about10 months (since April, I think). We've had no end of trouble with some branches of Apple (but certainly not DTS!), particularly APDA. It has been often very difficult to get a definitive answer from them (we had a hard time confirming when our new copy of AMK 2.0 was going to ship. Hopefully we're going to get it today). For licensing information, Apple Licensing is the branch you want to contact (of course ;-). If you have an APDA catalogue, the number is in there (I can't find my catalogue right now, or I'd give you the number. Sorry). Or, surf on over to Apple's web site and see if you can find the number there http://www.apple.com/ Cheers! Chas DFI
