Simtel.Net is an excellent way for authors to distribute their programs on the Internet. The MS-DOS, MS-Windows, and Windows 95 collections are mirrored by sites all over the world, providing exposure to millions of users on the net. The repository is also available on CD-ROM for those who do not have access to the net. If you would like to upload the latest version of your Shareware, Freeware, or Public Domain program to Simtel.Net, the new home of the Simtel collections, please send e-mail to listserv@Simtel.Net with this command in the body of the message: get upload.info To receive the latest list of Simtel.Net mirror sites send e-mail to listserv@Simtel.Net with this command in the body of the message: get mirrors.info If you would like to receive our upload announcements by e-mail please send a message to listserv@Simtel.Net with this command: add ms-news Keith Petersen, General Manager of Simtel(tm) Simtel.Net is a service mark of Walnut Creek CDROM Internet: w8sdz@Simtel.Net http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/ Uucp: uunet!simtel.net!w8sdz ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet

Just a note--the old Coast (was SimTel) archive still exists at
ftp.coast.net/Coast and others. I have no interest in either side in this
unamicable divorce.

Coast.net has dropped the ball pretty badly in terms of maintaining/ updating the archives they've taken over, whereas Keith Petersen has been his usual efficient self in accepting and filing submissions to the new simtel.net. (Yes, I've posted software submissions to both sides since the breakup.) 2. Keith has been doing the largely-thankless task of archive maintenance, and doing it well, for more years than most people have been on the net. The freeware/shareware community owes him a great deal. Coast.net has no remotely comparable claim on the loyalties of the community. I plan to support Keith in this little contretemps, and to send my future software updates to his archive. You're free to disagree, of course, but I suggest you look into the facts and the history. regards, tom lane organizer, Independent JPEG Group PS: this is mostly off-topic in the given newsgroups. For lack of a better idea, I suggest followups go to comp.archives.msdos.d.
