HARRIS ANNOUNCES NIGHTVIEW DEBUGGER FOR REAL-TIME
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

First tool in new NightStar toolkit

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - August 27, 1992 - Harris Corporation's
Computer Systems Division today introduced NightView, the newest
member of their recently announced Night* (pronounced NightStar)
real-time software development environment. NightView is a graphical,
nonintrusive, multi-language source- level debugging and monitoring
tool for programmers working in a multiprocessor real-time
environment. NightView is tailored for the more complex development
needs of real-time customers and is the first source-level debugging
tool available that can manipulate many real-time programs and
processes as they execute across multiple computer processors.

The Night* software development tools, which include NightView, have
been developed to enable systems builders to reduce software
development time and maximize productivity when developing real-time
applications on the Night Hawk family of multiprocessor computers.
Night Hawk systems are used in environments such as flight simulation,
vehicle and weapons test, energy management, data acquisition, and
process control.

NightView provides insight into the structure and flow of a program,
enabling the programmer to monitor program execution. More
importantly, for the real- time application environments, NightView
can simultaneously debug multiple programs across multiple processors.
For any application involving the interaction between multiple
programs, the ability to start, stop, monitor and manipulate all the
programs as a group is critical to debugging a system. All of this
can be accomplished nonintrusively, with virtually no overhead, which
is extremely important for real-time systems.

NightView supports both a command line interface to ASCII terminals
and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based on the X Window System
standard that helps users better visualize program concepts.

NightView can be used to debug programs written in C, FORTRAN or a
combination of both. NightView allows programmers to add and modify
code while the program is running; new code can be tested without
having to recompile the program, thereby saving development time.
Like traditional debuggers, NightView supports conditional
breakpoints. However, with NightView the condition is evaluated
without human intervention which allows the program to run at nearly
full speed. By setting tracepoints in NightView, a programmer can
also record information about the flow of the program - such as time,
location and relevant program data - for use with other Night* tools.
NightView's extended macro capability lets users write customized
debugger commands.

The NightView manual and help messages are on-line and easily
accessible.

NightView release 1.1 (ASCII terminal support only) is available now.
Release 1.2 with support for both ASCII and X Window Systems is
scheduled for November 1992. NightView is supported on the Night Hawk
4000 and 5000 series of computers running the CX/UX UNIX operating
system, and is priced starting at $4,000 for a two-user license.

Harris Night Hawk Computers - Based on open systems architecture,
industry standards and RISC technology, the Harris Night Hawk family
of computer systems is designed for demanding real-time applications.
Ranging in performance from 20 to 800 MIPS, Night Hawk systems support
compatible real- time and multilevel secure UNIX operating systems
that comply with POSIX, the System V Interface Definition (SVID) and
88open standards.

Harris Computer Systems Division designs, manufactures, distributes
and supports the Night Hawk family of real-time computer systems for
simulation, data acquisition and secure computing applications. The
division is part of Harris' Electronic Systems Sector.

Harris Corporation, with annual worldwide sales of more than $3
billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems,
semiconductors, communications, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
