HARRIS ANNOUNCES NEW SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT

First to address the more complex needs of real-time

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - August 20, 1992 - Harris Corporation's
Computer Systems Division has developed an easy to use software
development environment called Night* (pronounced NightStar) that is
tailored to the more complex development needs of real-time customers.
The Night* tools are the first tools available that can handle the
interplay between many real-time programs as they execute across
multiple processors. Real-time applications are typically very
sophisticated, involving many programs executing in a multiprocessor
environment but working together and behaving as one unit. Using
Night*, systems integrators will be able to significantly reduce their
software development time, maximize productivity and increase their
competitive edge. Night* tools were designed for use in a wide range
of real-time environments such as flight simulation, vehicle and
weapons test, energy management, data acquisition, and process
control.

Chief Scientist for Harris' Computer Systems Division Al Romagosa
said, "We have seen a shift in the focus of system builders in recent
years. Today up to 75% of a system's cost stems from software
development. Also, drastic improvements in computer performance have
led to increased software complexity as applications developers are
able to push the threshold of the computer's capabilities. The Night*
toolkit provides the productivity tools that our customers have
requested to meet their software development needs and enable full use
of today's faster, more powerful, multiprocessor Night Hawk computers.
The first tools in the Night* family - such as a multiprocessor
debugger and application/operating system event tracer - will be
introduced over the next few weeks."

Harris' Night Hawk computers are already providing the data analysis
for the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) System deployed at major
airports, in military simulation programs such as C-17 and CH-47, and
are integral to research and development in large simulation
laboratories. Night Hawk computers are extensively used in data
acquisition applications such as the recent $10 million award to
supply over 300 computers to support the Space Shuttle and Space
Station Freedom at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Night* toolkit makes Harris Night Hawk computers even more
versatile and user friendly for software development. In keeping with
the Night Hawk computer's open architecture design, the Night* tools
operate with a Graphical User Interface based on the X Window System
standard.

Harris Computer Systems Division produces the Night Hawk family of
real-time computer systems for simulation, data acquisition and secure
computing applications. The division is part of Harris' Electronic
Systems Sector.

Harris Corporation, with annual worldwide sales of more than $3
billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems,
semiconductors, communications, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
