HARRIS ANNOUNCES NIGHTTRACE ANALYZER FOR REAL-TIME SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

			Latest addition to NightStar toolkit

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - September 9, 1992 - Harris
Corporation's Computer Systems Division today introduced
NightTrace, the newest member of their recently announced NightStar
real-time software development environment. NightTrace is a graphical
tool for analyzing the dynamic behavior of multiprocess and/or
multiprocessor applications. NightTrace is tailored to the more complex
development needs of real-time customers and is the first tool available
that can graphically display the interplay between many real-time
programs and processes after they have executed across multiple
computer processors.

The NightStar software development tools, which include NightTrace,
were designed for use in a wide range of real-time environments such as
flight simulation, vehicle and weapons testing, energy management,
data acquisition, and process control.

"Real-time applications are typically very sophisticated, involving many
programs executing across multiple processors but working together
and behaving as one unit," said Al Romagosa, Chief Scientist for Harris
Corporation's Computer Systems Division. "NightTrace is the first
real-time software development tool of its kind to handle and graphically
display the interdependencies across multiple processes or processors."

Active windows can be used to display system activity for any given
processor in a multiprocessing system or can display user events and
user states for any user program, regardless of the processor on which
the program is running.

NightTrace makes Harris Night Hawk computers even more versatile
and user friendly for software development. In keeping with the Night
Hawk computer's open architecture design, NightTrace operates with a
Graphical User Interface (GUI) based on the X Window System
standard that provides a graphical view of the run-time behavior of a
real-time system. Information can be graphically displayed along a time
line to clearly show the relative timings of different events to
microsecond accuracy, and to give an overall picture of the application.
The entire sequence of application events can be replayed in slow
motion and events of interest may be searched for and zoomed in on for
precise observation.

Trace points are inserted into the application at any point at which an
event or data is required. Then, the application is run to generate a trace
log file and NightTrace is used to create a time-based display of the trace
point information. Trace points may also be configured in the kernel to
study the behavior of the system while running the application.
NightTrace can even analyze the user and kernel trace logs
simultaneously and present an integrated view of both kernel activity
and the user's application on the same time line.

The information from the application to be displayed graphically is
completely user configurable and can be displayed in any of several
different formats. Configurations can be saved and recalled later, and
several configurations can be visible at one time.

The NightStar software development tools, which include NightTrace
and the recently announced NightView debugger, have been developed
to enable systems builders to reduce software development time and
maximize productivity when developing real-time applications on the
Night Hawk family of multiprocessor computers.

NightTrace is supported on the Night Hawk 4000 and 5000 series of
computers running the CX/UX UNIX operating system and is priced at
$1,000 for a two-user license.

Harris Night Hawk Computers - Based on open systems
architecture, industry standards and RISC technology, the Harris Night
Hawk family of computer systems is designed for demanding real-time
applications. Ranging in performance from 20 to 800 MIPS, Night
Hawk systems support compatible real-time and multilevel secure
UNIX operating systems that comply with POSIX, the System V
Interface Definition (SVID) and 88open standards.

Harris Computer Systems Division produces the Night Hawk family of
real-time computer systems for simulation, data acquisition and secure
computing applications. The division is part of Harris' Electronic
Systems Sector.

Harris Corporation, with annual worldwide sales of more than $3
billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems,
semiconductors, communications, and Lanier Worldwide office
equipment.
