SPECIAL N!Power ACADEMIC PROGRAM;
Signal Technology announces its N!Power academic pricing
discount program effective October 1st. The goal is to make N!Power
more affordable for teaching or research degree-granting institutions.
STI software products have been installed in over 3500 sites
world-wide.
A sixty percent (60%) discount on N!Power lowers license costs
for individual permanent licenses to as low as $2400-$3000 for
Developers, and $920-1160 for end-users. Multiple copies are
discounted to even lower prices.
Bruce Hanna, V.P. of Sales/Marketing for STI, says:
"This program helps academics with limited budgets
purchase permanent licenses, vs. many competitors'
licenses that must be renewed annually.
Annual license fees hurt academics who often
must pay for a curriculum or research program on
one-time funds. Since most of us at STI are former
academics, we can relate to the problem."
FUNCTION - scientific/engineering data;
N!Power is for interactive analysis, visualization, design,
and control, e.g. any data-intensive scientific or engineering
applications. STI products typically acquire, simulate, analyze and
display waveforms, time series, images, or 2d-3d data of all kinds.
N!Power's runtime-only mode is well-suited for lab. or
classroom use. Customizing tools allow professors to select N!Power
features and external code(if desired) for a controlled teaching or
research platform. Because it can be accessed only by menus and block
diagrams, and cannot be modified, this platform focusses students on
only the desired functions and learning experience.
APPLICATION AREAS -
Common areas have been speech and acoustical, radar,
psychometric, geological, geographical, and biomedical. STI products
have roots in engineering applications and basic research in areas of
physics, chemistry and electronics.
N!POWER FEATURES _
N!Power provides a set of analysis, modeling and visualization
tools in a customizable, extensible open software architecture, a
framework.
N!Power features real-time data acquisition and
instrument/hardware control, Digital Signal Processing, basic imaging,
and 2d - 3d data visualization.
N!Power is highly interactive, with graphic sliders,
cursor-control of pop-ups, menus, and block diagrams for visual
programming.
Its data flow architecture, client-server model, and
bi-directional, callable C/Fortran interfaces support a wide range of
processing options.
Customizability is N!Power's strongest asset. The user is
provided with convenient menus and blocks "out of the box", but
virtually every feature can be modified - our goal is to provide
customizable components in a well- integrated framework.
ACADEMIA - longterm relationship;
N!Power's lower prices position STI's flagship product,
N!Power, for widespread use in academia. STI introduced the world
standard ILS product in 1978.
ILS became one of the most widely-used software products to
teach Digital Signal Processing. A simple version of ILS is still
distributed by the IEEE, and ILS is used by Learning Tree to teach
signal processing.
Larry Pfeifer, STI president and co-founder states:
"We are excited to bring N!Power's advanced technology
to the campus in an affordable package.
N!Power combines the best of emerging software
technologies with STI's seasoning as a leading
world-wide scientific software vendor for 15 years."
N!POWER is object-oriented - John McDowall, STI V.P. of Development
explains N!Power design:
"Software technology of the 70s and 80s did not provide
the open, flexible architecture we wanted. Instead of
patching version 8.0 of ILS, N!Power was a complete
ground-up object-oriented redesign. "
For example, STI converted time-tested, but monolithic ILS
algorithms into smaller reusable components (objects) and provided
high-level symbolic manipulation by block diagrams or commands.
N!Power is designed for users to recombine basics to make new
algorithms. All seven basic characteristics for objects explained by
Bertrand Meyer are embodied in N!Power.
