BACKGROUND FOR EDITORS
DECUS FALL 1992 SEMINARS/SYMPOSIUM TO FEATURE MIGRATION ACTIVITIES
...Attendees Given Opportunity to Discuss Available Migration
Paths to Digital Open Systems Platforms
DECUS and Digital Equipment Corporation's U.S. Marketing Group will present
a number of migration activities at the Chapter's Fall 1992 Seminars and
Symposium programs, December 5 - 11, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A variety of seminars and symposium sessions focusing on the topic of
migration will be presented during the programs. In addition, Digital
personnel will be on hand to conduct on-site meetings to provide further
information on available migration paths.
In what is expected to be one of the most equipment intensive booths to ever
be established on a DECUS exhibit hall floor, Digital's U.S. Marketing Group
will demonstrate the Corporation's ability to migrate applications written
for non-Digital systems to appropriate Digital platforms including: SCO;
Alpha; VAX 4000 and 7000; VAX 5000; and Digital PCs.
Migration demonstrations will be conducted on applications originally written
for the following non-Digital systems, all of which will be featured in the
migrations booth:
* Prime
* IBM 8100
* IBM S/1
* Wang
* PROFS
* PICK
Connectivity demonstrations will also be conducted for applications which
currently run on Unisys and IBM CICS platforms.
The migrations booth will be staffed by Digital technical personnel and
program managers who will be available to answer questions and showcase
solutions running on selected Digital platforms. It is also expected that
booth personnel will distribute "roadmaps" listing various migration focused
sessions.
Symposium attendees who wish to schedule an on-site migration consulting
session with Digital personnel may do so by contacting Ken Burstall of
Digital's U.S. Marketing Group by November 27 at (508) 467-6751.
The diverse offerings presented during the weeklong format of the DECUS
seminars and symposium programs allow attendees to participate in sessions
within their primary interest area as well as to explore new areas of
interest. Forums such as Special Interest Group Campgrounds allow attendees
to meet in an informal atmosphere.
DECUS seminars and symposium attendees have the opportunity to solve their
current computing problems, learn new methods of dealing with everyday
situations, explore new applications and technological advances, and to make
contact with their peers in the computer industry.
