	 					    BACKGROUND FOR EDITORS

                     DECUS FALL 1992 SEMINARS/SYMPOSIUM
                TO FEATURE A VARIETY OF UNIX-RELATED SESSIONS

Computing professionals working with UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems and
tools will find a variety of sessions geared toward their needs during the
DECUS U.S. Chapter's Fall 1992 Seminars and Symposium programs, December 5 -
11, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The DECUS UNISIG, the Chapter's UNIX focused Special Interest Group, and
Digital's Customer Training Group will present a combined slate of 8 one- and
two-day seminars on December 5 and 6. In addition the UNISIG will sponsor a
total of 80 UNIX-related symposium sessions during the symposium week,
December 7 - 11.

Sessions will cover such topics as:

	 * Introduction to UNIX basics
	 * UNIX philosophy
	 * Management of ULTRIX systems
	 * Communications tools in ULTRIX
	 * ULTRIX security
	 * Transitioning from VMS to ULTRIX

In response to a growing demand for information on Digital's 64-bit Alpha
platform, the UNISIG will present sessions dealing with OSF/1 on the 21064
architecture, as well as sessions detailing techniques used in porting from
ULTRIX on a 32-bit MIPS chip, to OSF/1 on the 64-bit Alpha platform.

The diverse offerings presented during the weeklong format of the DECUS
seminars and symposium programs allow attendees to participate in sessions
within their primary interest area as well as to explore new areas of
interest. Forums such as Special Interest Group Campgrounds allow attendees
to meet in an informal atmosphere.

DECUS seminars and symposium attendees have the opportunity to solve their
current computing problems, learn new methods of dealing with everyday
situations, explore new applications and technological advances, and to make
contact with their peers in the computer industry.

                                     ###
