Desktop Integration Local User's Group (DILUG)
Thursday, September 12, 1996
11:00AM until 2:00PM
Digital Equipment Corporation
6406 Ivy Lane
Greenbelt, MD
TOPICS
- RAID; Jeff Forrest and Kurt Smith, Digital Equipment
- FX!32; Ed Herold, Digital Equipment
Our kickoff DILUG meeting for this year will cover two
interesting and relevent topics for anyone supporting
desktops and LANS.
The first topic is Storage and RAID techniques. You can
never have too much money, too much pizza, or too much
storage. Jeff and Kurt, fresh from the latest futures
briefings, will discuss the hottest topics in the storage
arena with a primary focus on Raid. Their presentation will
cover what the RAID levels are, how to choose the right RAID
level, and how to fulfill your RAID requirements.
What if you could run all your 16-bit applications and all
your new NT applications on the same processor at the same
time. Ed will brief you on one of the most notable product
introductions this year from Digital - FX!32. With Digital's
FX!32 binary translation and emulation technology, an Alpha
processor running NT will run any Intel-based 16-bit
application at the predicted speed of a Pentium processor.
The product will be introduced in October and DILUG members
will be some of the first people to actually see it run!
Since lunch (probably pizza and soda) will be provided,
please register with Dave Baker at (301)918-5284 or
dave.baker@cop.mts.dec.com and specify how many people from
your organization will be attending.
If you are interested in performance on either VMS or NT
systems, be sure to attend the ESILUG meeting on September 24
from 1:00-4:00 at Mitertek in McLean, VA. The topics will be
"VMS and NT Performance Monitoring and Tuning" presented by
Datametrics and "Performance War Stories" presented by LUG
members.
You can subscribe to the ESILUG mailing list by sending the
message subscribe esilug-list (without a subject) to
mailserv@decus.org. For more information about the next
meeting you can contact the chair, Jim Becker at
jbecker@ssi-hq.syssol.com or (301)309-9508 x110, or visit the

Lane, then make the first right into Capital Office Park.
Digital is in the blue building on the right.
