I have several 2.5 drives pulled from laptops that are now doing
service under linux. Nice drives, quiet and cool running, but as you
say, the interface is a problem. I've found 2 choices, neither
especially attractive. One is to purchase the adapter kit (mounting
tray and connector) from an outfit in California. Name *may* be
Blue Tech, La Jolla, CA 619-456-1440. Not positive about all that,
but give it a try. $20 per kit, as I recall.
Other method, the one I chose, is to purchase the 2mm connector,
a standard IDE connector, and some 2mm ribbon cable from Digikey (Thief
River Falls MN, 800-344-4539 http://www.digikey.com), and make your
own adapter. This method requires pulling apart all the ribbon leads
on the end receiving the wider connector, and pressing them on one
at a time. Also requires splicing the last 4 to a standard power
connector. Works well, I have several here, but a pain to make.
good luck,
rvz
