Hi,

Maybe your phone's local loop is that bad, but thats pretty bad. ;)
I have to settle with 21.6-24.0 K connects. Have you called your
server from different locations?

The average 'useable' bandwidth of a phone line is 2400 Hz. The phone
company filters anything above 3000 Hz with the remaining frequency
subject to noise (and noise there is).

Thus, 2400 signal changes per second(Hz) with 12 bits encoded per
signal change is 28.8 K bits-per-second. It also means that the cost of
one lost signal is high, ie 12 bits (V.34). A 2400 baud modem encodes
one bit per signal change on the same frequency range.

So its impossible to get max throughput (connect speed) without
a pristine line. Pristine meaning at least 2400 Hz of useable
bandwidth.

I used to get 28.8 and 31.6 connects with my same ISPs from a
different location damnit.

Regards,

Dave
