What a complete waste of bandwidth. If you read the above, its clear I know how to use stty and setserial to config a serial port. Anyway, no-one's came up with any answers, but I'd like to add this: I did a RedHat 4.1 install on a spare disk which I stuck in my machine just for the install. Curiously, using exactly the same setserial and stty commands - the modem works fine - discuss???? Paul. ---------------- paul@vertige.demon.co.uk http://www.vertige.demon.co.uk
