Hi there! Could anyone help me with the following problem: I have a Tyan TomCat III mobo running two 133Mhz Pentiums Linux 2.0.29, SMP enabled, NCR 53c810 support is compiled into the kernel. I've got a PCI Fast-SCSI-2 hostadapter with the NCR 53c810 chip *without* any scsi devices on the scsi-bus. It's in the first PCI slot, set to INTA, level enabled interrupts. The linux kernel recognizes the adapter and initializes it, but then it waits for a timeout and then resets it, then again and again (infinite loop)... Is it possible that this is because that are no scsi devices attached to the bus? I also don't have any terminators to the external and internal connector attached. It's not an ASUS SC200 and as far as I know it's not one with active termination.. Here some of the boot up messages (not exactly though): scsi host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out restarting scsi bus is being reset for host 0, channel 0, nec53c810-0: restart (scsi bus restart) scsi: aborting command due to timeout: pid 0, scsi 0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 test unit ready 00 00 00 00 00 nec53c810-0: abort_call [infiniely repeated] Mucho thanks in advance! -- Bob Velkov Bob.Velkov@par.univie.ac.at

[snip] I have an adapter with the same chip, made by Soyo. I don't have the problem you are encountering. The controller I have doesn't have a way to set termination on the board ( it has to be done on the device that is last on the scsi chain ). On the controller there is a Conner tape drive and a Zip insider. I am running Slackware kernel 2.0.29. One remedy for your problem ( since you don't have anything plugged on it ) is to pull it out and put it back in when you buy some scsi device ;-)
