Hi all:

Does anybody know if there is any known problem in using Linux (2.0.x,
for example) on a Intel Pentium II 450 MHz?. Someone told about it, but
I am very skeptic on the subject. Any information or reference would
help.

Thanks in advance

Why should there be problems? There isn't a difference between the P2-x
and P2-y, from the software's point of view.

Problems will start to show up when chips get faster than light, but
there are a couple of technical problems to solve before we get that
far.

Surely we'd have seen such problems already in the past?

  I run 2.0.35 on a Gateway P2-400 256meg ram, 14.4gig UDMA drive and
Diamond GL1000 AGP card, 3com 3c905B . It runs X and it smokes! Even
the crappy Gateway sound card works (Winmodem does not work). It NFS
mounts IRIX 5.2 SGI Indy and HP 9.05 HP9000 and SMB for NT laptops.
Works great and is the fastest and most stable machine there.

Just to boast...

I just installed Linux on a 333 Celeron processor and am overclocking it to
550MHz (5x112MHz) on a 100MHz Asus motherboard with 512Mb RAM. It has a
Adaptec 2940UW scsi controller running Ultra Wide Connectors to two 9.2Gb UW
7200 rpm SCSI DISKS. Oh and it has a Glint 4000 video card just for fun.

Not that I have any need for this.. I just wanted to see what Linux would do
under these circumstances. The box compiled the 2.0.35 Kernel, with
modules, in just under 5 seconds. I was amazed!

By the way.. it is still slow running NT server.

p.s. Don't try this at home.. the box sounds like a jet aeroplane with three
fans in it!
