I've downloaded the mini Linux distribution, and I'm happy to say it seems to work quite well. I have encountered a couple of problems I can't seem to fathom... If I modify /etc/motd to diosplay a different message, but I reboot, the file reverts back to "Welcome to Linux 1.0.9 (Posix)". Why does my change not remain after a reboot? The X-Windows supplied seems to be setup for SVGA screens. My display is only a lowly VGA, though. Is there some config file somewhere that I can set what display I have? I there some kind of 'sysinfo' utility in the version I have, or is one available? The PC I'm using is a 386-sx laptop with a Cyrix 486 upgrade. I am 'enabling' the 486 in dos before loading Linux, but I want to check that it is still enabled after Linux is loaded. I know the floppy drive is /dev/fd1, but how do I access files from floppy? At the moment I'm having to copy the files to hd under DOS, then load Linux. I assume there is an easier way! TIA.
