I can't help on all of your questions, but here goes on two of them: On 4 Jun 1995 12:21:59 +0100 Scott Mordecai (scott@musicman.demon.co.uk) wrote in comp.os.linux.setup: : If I modify /etc/motd to diosplay a different message, but I reboot, the : file reverts back to "Welcome to Linux 1.0.9 (Posix)". Why does my change : not remain after a reboot? Look in the rc.d directory -- one of the rc.* files rewrites /etc/motd. Grep for "Welcome" and then go in and comment out the line. : I know the floppy drive is /dev/fd1, but how do I access files from floppy? : At the moment I'm having to copy the files to hd under DOS, then load : Linux. I assume there is an easier way! You should be able to mount floppies on /dev/fd0 or /dev/fd1. If they are MS-DOS floppies use mount -t msdos. The error messages from mount are sometimes misleading, more often than not any error message from mount means you have used no -t parameter where one is needed, or an incorrect one. -- Albert S.
