This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------0E56CE8C16CFEDC6B509190D Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi, Does someone know how i can integrate the pgp into netscape communicator?? Or what are you thinking of the encryption mechanism of netscape communicator?? (I don't want to pay something for it, so it would be very cool if there is a method to "plugin" PGP into communicator under linux) Thanks, Gerhard PS: It would also be very handy .-) -- Member of the KDE project http://www.kde.org --------------0E56CE8C16CFEDC6B509190D Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="vcard.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Gerhard Poul Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="vcard.vcf" begin: vcard fn: Gerhard Poul n: Poul;Gerhard org: UUCP Feed OurNet adr;dom: The Shadowed Lands;;mud.idefix.ml.org:4000;;;; email;internet: gerhard@ournet.atnet.at title: Member of the KDE Project x-mozilla-cpt: ;0 x-mozilla-html: TRUE version: 2.1 end: vcard --------------0E56CE8C16CFEDC6B509190D--

Not directly, as far as I know. If someone can correct me, please do. >Or what are you thinking of the encryption mechanism of netscape >communicator?? If you want to make sure that there isn't a hacker on one of your routers reading mail, it should be fine. If you are using encryption for anything of serious value, you may want to be wary of any product you don't compile yourself. I'll skip the requisite stories about Netscape's "random" number generation, simple decryption utilities for Office, etc. >(I don't want to pay something for it, so it would be very cool if there >is a method to "plugin" PGP into communicator under linux) Well, I think there is, though you may have to be indirect about it. Isn't it possible to configure or patch sendmail so that it automatically signs and/or encrypts messages according to recipient? This would have the added advantage that it would be "configure and forget" and would work with any mail program. You would just make sure that Netscape was set to send mail to "localhost," and there you go. A quick web search shows "pgpsendmail," which is a wrapper for sendmail to do just this. You can get .rpm files of it at http://linux.stt.it (a site I'd like to recommend, by the way - the .rpm search engine is absolutely beautiful) or can probably find tarballs to install via HotBot. --- Roy Stogner

That's open to debate. Usenet messages are supposed to have the same format as mail messages. Mail messages can use MIME. So one could argue that Usenet messages should allow MIME. OTOH, there are still a lot of Newsreaders out there which cannot handle MIME, and since Usenet (except for the binary hierarchies) is supposed to be text-only there is not much need for MIME (except Content-type: text/plain; charset= headers for non-ASCII messages), so one should avoid sending MIME messages to the Usenet. > If you are using encryption for anything >of serious value, you may want to be wary of any product you don't compile >yourself. Compilation doesn't give you much security. Reading the source (or having other people read the source) does. >Well, I think there is, though you may have to be indirect about it. >Isn't it possible to configure or patch sendmail so that it automatically >signs and/or encrypts messages according to recipient? Sendmail could encrypt messages, but it cannot sign them for you, unless it knows your secret key. And I hope you don't want to give your secret key to sendmail. Sendmail could sign them with "postmaster@your.host" or something like that to certify that the mail did originate at your host. hp -- _ | Peter J.
