G'day Learned ones, every now and then I peruse the syslog files to see what is happening on our system. Occassionally I come across the following entries and I would like someone to explain to me what they mean and more to the point, is anything broken? 1. named[74]: recvfrom: Connection refused 2. tcplog: auth connection attempt from (someplace) 3. named[74]: Lame delegation to (someplace) Thanks in advance, Dave.

The answer to 1 is that this is a harmless bug in BIND-4.9.3-BETA9 that is corrected in later releases. You are advised to upgrade. A lame delegation is when one nameserver says that another one is authoritative for a certain domain, but the other one doesn't give out authoritative answers for that domain. The FAQ can be found at http://www.users.pfmc.net/~cdp/cptd-faq/ or at ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.answers/internet/tcp-ip/domains-faq/ or any other place where they archive FAQ files. >Thanks in advance, Dave. CU, Sico.
