One idea I've just had for burning CDROMs from a DOS machine so that
long filenames will be readable from Linux:

If you use the UMSDOS FS, then you get --linux-.--- files at the
top of each directory that contain the long file name & permission
information while the filenames for everything else become 8.3.

Then, you can burn the CD with standard ISO9660 format.

My question is how to convince linux to mount a ISO9660 cdrom
and do the UMSDOS name translation.

My motivation is the following:
We have a CDROM writer in the department attached to a DOS box,
so the most convenient thing for me to do is copy my files to
the DOS machine (in umsdos format) and burn the CD from there.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how easy this would be?
