There's no need to do this--use Rockridge Extensions, which puts a
text file in each directory to map 8.3 filenames to long Unix ones.
(And you can have both meaningful short filenames and long filenames,
unlike UMSDOS which generates meaningful long filenames, but garbage
truncations for the short filename.)

Linux's ISO9660 support includes Rockridge capability already--no need to
force it to do UMSDOS as well. Rockridge is an established way of doing
things--no need to use UMSDOS, which seems rather Linux-specific.
