I'm trying to set up a caching-only nameserver using bind-8 but I think
I've messed up the config somewhere as I get the following log entry
when I start named.
Apr 29 22:14:58 rathole1 named[719]: starting. named 8.1.1 Sat Mar 28 18:39:50 GMT 1998 root@rathole1:/home/kenny/bind/bin/bin/named
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[719]: cache zone "" (IN) loaded (serial 0)
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[719]: master zone "0.0.127.in-addr.arpa" (IN) loaded (serial 1)
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[719]: listening [127.0.0.1].53 (lo)
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[719]: listening [194.222.165.146].53 (ppp0)
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[719]: Forwarding source address is [127.0.0.1].2034
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[722]: Ready to answer queries.
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[722]: No root nameservers for class IN
Apr 29 22:15:00 rathole1 named[722]: sysquery: findns error (SERVFAIL) on ?
My config files are as follows:
/etc/named.conf
options {
directory "/var/named";
};
zone "." {
type hint;
file "root.hints";
};
zone "0.0.127.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "pz/127.0.0";
};
/var/named/root.hints

All this is lifted straight out of the DNS howto. What am I doing wrong?
I suspect that it's something silly but I'm just not seeing it :-(
