linux NIS -- user Includes/excludes

Hi,

I'm trying to impliment NIS under linux. Currently, the server machine
I'm using is a RH6.0 box and the client machines are RH6.1

on the Client machines I have set in the nsswitch file the following
settings for passwd: group: etc...

passwd:     compat
shadow:     compat
group:      compat

passwd_compat: nis
group_compat: nis
shadow_compat: nis

I have added the lines ( or similar )

+::::::
-fred
+craig:::::/home2/craig:
+

to my /etc/passwd file and yet the user includes/excludes still seem to
fail to work.

has anyone else tried implementing NIS under linux? does anyone have any
suggestions? It all appears as if it *should* work :?

Cheers
Craig

RedHat uses pam_pwdb/libpwdb. This PAM module/library can not handle
this and ignores /etc/nsswitch.conf.

Linux is like a Vorlon. It is incredibly powerful, gives terse,
cryptic answers and has a lot of things going on in the background.

Mmm. I have a RH5.2 server with that setup (almost):

passwd:         compat
shadow:         compat
group:          compat

#passwd_compat:         nis
#shadow_compat:         nis
#group_compat:          nis

and user include/exclude (with netgroups) works. Didn't touch
PAM. Clients are RH6.0 and some RH5.2

I am having the same problem with my Red Hat 6.1 NIS client. I have changed
the lines in my nsswitch.conf file and I also changed my /etc/pam.d/login
file but I still can't seem to get the user include/exclude to work. Does
anyone have any suggestions???? Thanks,
