I recently got a Digital DECpc LPx+ 486 that has been upgraded to a
586 to use as a dedicated Linux box. I'm re-installing Redhat Linux
5.2 on it. In the install, I get to installing a network card part
and it says it can't find the device anywhere on my system. The
network card is NE2000 compatible. Does it have to be atached to an
active network? Has anybody gotten this error before or know what
could be causing it? Thanks

I got the same error when I installed the RH 5.2 distro. I don't have a
reason as to *why* it happened but I couldn't get it to work during the
install. I corrected it by just finishing the install and then
recompiling a new kernel with the NE2000 driver (plus other things I
wanted to work) and fired it up, and the NIC worked like a champ. Not the
ideal answer but it works. Check out the HOW-TO if you have questions re
compiling a kernel.
