Thanks to those that sent me email.. I was inundated with email..
However, nothing fixed the problem..  It actually looks to me like
something is overwriting the environment variable.

it says this when I start up tin -r

Connecting to set.your.NNTPSERVER.variable

and of course it can't find that as a news server.  I've tried
exporting my variables, putting the one line newsserver in the file
called nntpserver in /etc

This really has me stumped.  Any help would be appreciated..  thanks
