Help: utility to probe hardware?

I have been pulling my hair out trying to detect my modems and it's just
not working at all. I tried to use 95 and NT to help but that information
has not borne fruit. Is there some software that will allow for the
computer to detect hardware (eg modems) (eg SuperProbe for video cards)
and configure itself for them? Or at least get the right settings?

And if anyone has any info for my hardware I've got an Acer Aspire 1250
K6-166 w/USR Sportster 288 and a Rockwell PnP 336.
