Hi I have 2 hard drives one with Win 95 and the other I want to install Red Hat 6 onto.. Can I have the Linux HD as master, Win 95 as slave and access both of them from the Lilo prompt ?? ie LILO: (type:win95) I would like to choose either Win 95 or Linux HD's.. I thought about creating an entry in the boot directory but as a beginner haven't succeded. Any pointers would be appreciated.. bye, cs.

Windows is fussy - better make it the master. You can still dual boot and either O/S can be the default in LILO. It's probably easier to do it the other way around: leave Win95 on the first hard drive and install linux on the second. Linux really doesn't care where you put it, but Windows will insist on booting from a primary partition on the first physical drive (a Microsoft "feature" no doubt). There are ways around this, but as long as you have the choice, why do it the hard way? -- -John (John.Thompson@ibm.net)

Hi Craig, You don't say what type of PC you are using. I have a Pentium II, and I have my Linux (RedHat 6.0) as Primary Master, and have Win95b on my Secondary Master. I have no problems booting Windows from the Secondary Master, either by way of drive selection at boot up (Bios Option), or from Lilo. I prefer linux to be on the Primary Master, that way Lilo is on the linux hdd and not the Windows HDD, so no problems with stuffing Windows (IT does that well enough on its own). I don't know whether or not all Pentium II motherboard/Bios 's allow such booting. Windoze may be fussy, but it's easily fooled. All that is needed is to ask LILO to logically swap the drives when booting Windoze. An interesting side effect of this sleight of hand is that if/when you reinstall Windoze it will clobber the MBR of /dev/hdb, leaving LILO intact on the MBR of /dev/hda. See http://www.wwnet.com/~stevelim/booting.html for the details. LILO version 21 has the REWRITE_TABLE option turned on so that you don't have to compile it to be able to logically swap the drives. > Craig Sharpe wrote in message <378BF0E9.34EB6B0F@hotmail.com>... >>Hi >> >>I have 2 hard drives one with Win 95 and the other I want to install Red >>Hat 6 onto..
