Help:PPA Zip and 2.0.33

I installed a new kernel (32 to 33) on my RH5 system. However I lost my
PPA Zip drive; the kernel said it does not recognize /dev/sda4.

I tried to mount it again by compiling in SCSI disk enable in the
kernel. This did not resolve the problem either. I just scanned the
list of HOWTOs in the LDP and there was no mention of how to mount a PPA
Zip drive.

Two things:

1. How do I reenable my Zip drive?

2. How do I keep my settings the next time I upgrade my kernel?

Look at the list of mini-HOWTOs

I did:

http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX-3.html#ss3.2

I think you just have to have the ppa.o driver, I always do it as a module.
My 'tomsrtbt' root/boot system includes both 2.0.33 and ppa.o, I did test it
on a friends machine with a parallel zip drive with no problems...

DO look at /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/README.ppa if you have problems...

Although you posted a week ago...

I would: i) check that bios recognizes your parallel port(s)
                  and note the addresses.

ii) use dmesg to review the bootup procedure and see
what happens to that port(s), i.e., who claims them
(having plip enabled may sieze your port before
lp gets a chance -- I think there can be problems
if another device/process claims the port first)

             iii) proceed accordingly...

keep a copy of your /usr/src/linux/.config and load it next time
      you build your kernel.

How about
