Using printer and ppa Zip simultaneously

I was told there was a HOWTO I could use to help me out but it was
woefully out of date. It still said you had to switch between the print
and ppa modules. Is there some way I could just print w/o castrating my
Zip and vice versa?

Take a look at

http://www.cyberelk.demon.co.uk/parport.html

This has patches to 2.0.33 and 2.1.something. I'm going to be installing it
tonight and see what happens...

There may be. I am running RH 5.0 and it loads ppa with kerneld.
Before I don't think it could do that before, so it might change it for
you now.

Still, simultaneous printing and ZIPping doesn't work reliably, even using
manufacturer provided drivers (simultaneous meaning not just interleaved,
but literally mixing the printer and zip data streams.)

I have Slakware 3.3 with a 2.0.33 kernel, and I managed to persuade
kerneld to load ppa with the line "scsi_adaptor ppa" in my kerneld
configuration file. This works, but only if the lp module isn't
currently loaded. Getting kerneld to automatically unload lp before
loading ppa (and vice versa) would be a step forwards.

Hmm... there is a post-install section... I wonder if there is an
undocumented "pre-install" section?

Chris.
