Meaning what? Did it go through copying files, or just "instantly" appear to
finish? Did it ask any questions at all?
If it did ask any questions, what type of install did you select? If you
select the server install, it deletes ALL partitions on ALL hard disks. This
is not carefully spelled out, and I don't believe it warns you first. The
dangers of this option are better specified in later releases of Red Hat.

Okay. I'm assuming you don't know Linux/BSD/Unix. If that's not the case,
post more information as to what you triedk.
Log in as root (*) then execute the following commands.
ls -la
cd /
ls -la
Normally, when a new system is set up, looking for files does not reveal
anything because the only files in the home directory are hidden.
The first command above should list several "utility" files, which are
normally hidden when looking at files.
The second command moves to the top of the directoy structure ("almost" the
same as C:\ in windows). Then the third lists the contents of that top
direcory, which should contain entries like etc, bin, usr, home.
Now, how to instal Linux to allow booting with NT.
The way that works for me is this:
Install linux, making sure NOT to perform a server class install.
Upon installation, reboot into Linux. Log in and su to root. Edit
/etc/lilo.conf (best editor for newbies in my opinion: pico). Add the
following lines at the bottom, assuming the hard disk partitioning you
specified above:
other=/dev/hda1
label=winnt
then run lilo as root to reconfigure the linux boot loader.
Other people say this will not work, so your mileage may vary, though I've
used this many times without fail.
(*) It is not recommended to log in as root. You should create a user
account, and log in with that account. If you need to work as root you
execute the command 'su -' which will ask for root's password.
Oh yes, avoid cross posting, as people are less inclined to reply.
