W32p won't X correctly

Whenever I try to start XFree_W32 (I have an ET4000/W32P rev b with an ATT20c492 RAMDAC. The monitor is a ViewMaster 15in with digital controls) I either get: 1. Screen makes the "switching-modes" noise, but goes entirely blank. Sometimes killing the server will get me back to text mode, but sometimes not, so I have to reboot to see anything. (I assume that everything is still "there", I just can't see it.) This happens maybe 80% of the time. 2. X will come up: I get a blue screen and around it I get this sort of grey colour (the same sort of colour you get when you turn up the brightness of your monitor) - is this normal? After using X for a little while (1-2 minutes), various weird things happen like: I get thin horizontal lines across the screen, the palette will change slightly and sometimes the whole screen fades so I can't see anything any more. As it is, X is quite unusable, which is particularly frustrating since I picked the hardware to be X-compatible. It happens with whatever screen mode I try, even the VESA-standard ones. Hi Michael,
I've got the w32p chipset working fine with my 15" Videocom
monitor, although it took a fair amount of fiddling before everything
ran smoothly...
If the problem is with the chipset section of your Xconfig
files I can send you a copy of mine - however it sounds like it
is most likely the monitor setup causing problems. (Unfortunately
I'm about 800km from my box at the moment - or I'de post the
relavent bits now!).
If you can't get it working let me know and I may be able
to give some help... 8)
Adrian.

For now, I am running the SVGA server (quite successfully) and it is almost as fast as the W32 server. The w32 server is still rather new, I know that hercules sent the writer of the server a card to experiment here a couple of months ago, however I have not been following the updates to that server lately, cause the SVGA is still fairly nice. only annoying thing is the screenblank goes all white instead of all black. any other ?'sssss, let me know.....
