I don't know if this can be done but I'm trying to see whether I can get two independent displays and two independent mice working. I'm using Redhat 7.3 with Xfree 4.2.0 and a matrox g450 dual head card. Basically, I have two monitors and two mice hooked up (a serial and a ps/2) and I want one mouse and its associated cursor to work on one screen independent of the other mouse. ie. two independent cursors working on two independent screens. Is this even possible?

Is this even possible? In XF86Config-4, make an input section for each mouse and keyboard. Make two ServerLayout sections, each with its own mouse, keyboard, and screen. Make sure xinerama is off. The screen in the first ServerLayout should be assigned "0", and the second ServerLayout should be assigned "1". Start two instances of X with different serverlayout options. startx -- -layout FirstLayout startx -- -layout SecondLayout

Thanks for the answer. I edited my config file to the above but when I try to start the second instance of X, it gives: Fatal server error: Server is already active for display 0. If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. How do I get the two instances to work together?

A printout of your XF86Config-4 server layout sections would be useful.
